As if we didn't have enough vehicles already, we bought a very clean 1990 Ford F-150, short-bed, 4 X 4 pickup a few days ago. The old purple 1995 F-150 is extremely rusty, thanks to Illinois road salt, and has close to 180,000 miles on it. This shiny red short-bed just rolled over 100,000 miles the day we bought it. It is one-owner and was always garage-kept. It is a bit unusual, being a 5.0 liter V8, with five-speed manual transmission and 4-wheel drive. Since I'm planning to retire in a few months, it won't be getting the ongoing winter abuse the other one did. I will have to say though, that the old purple 1995 truck was the best and most dependable truck we have ever had. It served us well for ten years, and has been to ten different states while we owned it.

Nothing better than an old dependable vehicle. I'm always a bit sad when I have to retire a vehicle I've owned for many years. Sounds like a great find Astute.

Yes, I'm planning to "pull the plug" at the end of this year.  If my mind wasn't made up already, the sudden illness and death of my dear old friend John convinced me that it's time to do it. I'd like to be able to enjoy retiremant while I'm still healthy enough to do the things I want to do.

I think you've found the perfect time to retire. Sounds like your head is in exactly the right place!
